Anne Sikimeti Latu Award for Multiculturalism

Content: In 13 December 2012 Clr Karl Saleh chairperson of the Canterbury city council Multicultural Advisory Committee, moved a motion at the Council meeting to introduce Canterbury City Council first award for service in the promotion of multiculturalism in the City of Canterbury. This award, named the Anne Sikimeti Latu Award for Multiculturalism, the award was established in order to give in recognition to individuals, groups or organisations that foster cross-cultural co-operation and promote multicultural harmony.
Anne Sikimeti Latu was a member of Council’s Multicultural Advisory Committee and She was the co-founder, along with Clr Karl Saleh of the Canterbury Harmony Group, which, using Harmony Day as its focus, aims to promote inclusiveness and collaboration in the Canterbury community.
The Award for Multiculturalism is advertised jointly with other Council’s Community Awards and the winner is announced on Australia Day celebrations.

“1. An award for service in the promotion of multiculturalism in the City of Canterbury be developed by our Multicultural Advisory Committee in recognition of individuals, groups or organisations that foster cross-cultural co-operation and promote multicultural harmony

This award be named the City of Canterbury Anne Latu Award for Multiculturalism.” In January 2014,
