BELMORE resident Helen Gialouris was given the 2014 Harmony Citizen Award at recent Harmony Day celebrations in Campsie.

Ms Gialouris, the Inner West Area Tenants Council secretary, was given the award during an event at the Orion Centre on March 19.

The Canterbury Inter-faith Reference Group won the Harmony Day Community Group of the Year award.

Lakemba state Labor MP Robert Furolo handed out the awards, while convener of the Canterbury Harmony Group and Canterbury councillor, Karl Saleh, congratulated the recipients.

“These awards recognised the efforts of individual volunteers and volunteer groups in our community, that foster cross-cultural cooperation and promote multicultural harmony, and promote a positive image of local residents and making a difference in our local community,” Cr Saleh said.
